Center For Inquiry | New York City

The Center for Inquiry | New York City is the local branch of a thinktank working to foster a secular society based on science, reason, free inquiry and humanist values. CFI-NYC sponsors public educational programs, supports local campus and community groups, works with the media, and hosts the Center's mission to the United Nations.  E-mail mdedora@centerforinquiry.net for more.

Flying Spaghetti Monster Meetup

We meet to share our delight in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and to discuss those issues nearest and dearest to the Flying Spaghetti Monster's heart, such as uncompromised educational standards. To say nothing of parrots, pirates, and aaaaaargh, matey.

Jolly 13 Club

The Jolly Thirteen Club is a revitalization of a social club that existed in the 1880s in New York City. It was started by Captain William Fowler in retaliation to the many superstitions that were running peoples lives at the turn of last century. Thanks to Captain Fowler, both men and women got together on the thirteenth of every month in groups of thirteen and would break superstitions. Keeping to the "spirit" join our group of skeptics on the thirteenth of every month and tempt your fate with us! Contact Daniel Korostyshevsky for more information at danny@jollythirteen.com.

New York City Brights

The Brights is a world-wide non-supernaturalist constituency that neither dictates a doctrine nor charges for membership. It is a broad, inclusive world-view that recognizes reason and mindfulness as an evolutionary progression. Brights are either independent thinkers or members of the many other secular, freethought, pro-science, atheist, agnostic and humanist organizations, providing a non-competitive umbrella to our community of reason. For a list of enthusiastic brights and to officially register as a Bright go to our website or contact Charles Alexander Zorn at zorn@ bway.net.

New York Philosophy

New York Philosophy brings the idea of the salon to Manhattan. Each month, NY Phi members of all ages, backgrounds, and outlooks assemble "either to please or to educate" [Horace]. Sharing a predilection for a critical, reasoned approach, members engage in passionate discussions while enjoying food, drink, and socializing. Topics range from matters of the day to matters of all time. Our free monthly salons range from 80-200 in attendance at rotating venues in Manhattan.

New York Society for Ethical Culture

The Ethical Culture Society is a welcoming home for humanists, providing non-theistic social and community programming in a congregational setting. From our home at 64th and Central Park West we offer music, interesting speakers, and lunch on Sundays, plus other events and programs throughout the week. See our web site for times and directions.

Secular Humanist Society of New York

Secular humanism is a philosophy of life guided by reason and science, free from religious and secular dogmas, motivated by an appreciation of life and the lives of others, seeking to reach goals of human happiness, freedom and understanding on this earth, in this life. It is summed up by, at least, two quotes: "Human experience is the source of values," Felix Adler & John Dewey; and "The individual human being is the source of rights," Thomas Paine. The Secular Humanist Society of New York (SHSNY), founded in 1988, is a leader in the metro area freethought community. SHSNY publishes a lively, literate newsletter, organizes lectures by leading scholars, scientists and authors, and every month debate ideas at our Book Club, breaks bread at Sunday Brunch, and enjoys burgers and beers at Movie Night.  Enjoy life with us -- join us.
